Urmston Passivhaus

  • PROJECT: 5 new homes

  • LOCATION: Urmston, Greater Manchester

  • ENERGY TARGET: Passivhaus

  • TECH: Air-source heat pump, MVHR, solar panels

The vision for this project is to set a precedent for low energy homes in Trafford and Greater Manchester; delivering Passivhaus homes which have super low energy requirements and running costs, whilst minimising the embodied carbon in the build as far as possible.

The homes have also been designed to accommodate low carbon technologies such as air source heat pumps, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery and solar panels for energy generation.

The scheme aims to breathe new life to an area which has seen industrial decline over the last 30 years, with a simple contemporary aesthetic. The lightweight metal roof reflects the industrial heritage of the site, whilst the texture of the bricks provide a human-scale texture. The beautiful timber clad balconies overlook the adjacent park adding activity and life to the street scene.
