The remodelling and extension provides a contemporary transformation from a previously under-loved detached 1980's bungalow into a beautiful and comfortable forever home that minimises the owner’s energy consumption.

A dramatic vaulted ceiling and clerestory provides an open plan arrangement to the rear with floor to ceiling glazing. The design embraces colour throughout from the windows, high quality plywood joinery and light fittings. The MVHR steel ducting is exposed to create a striking modern aesthetic.

The inclusion of an integrated garage was a critical part of the brief for accessibility which was impossible to fulfil from the existing local building stock. This front extension gave the opportunity to introduce high quality brickwork to tie this building in with the adjacent Victorian terraces.

Set back from the street the design uses lightweight contemporary materials suitable for the application of external wall insulation and low in embodied carbon. The build includes solar panels, ASHP and extensive airtightness measures to significantly reduce the operational energy of the home.
