As one of the first AECB Carbonlite certified retrofits in Greater Manchester, this project raises the bar for low energy retrofit in the region.

The remodelling and extension provides a contemporary transformation from a previously under-loved detached 1980s bungalow, into a beautiful and comfortable forever home that maximises energy efficiency. The design embraces warm natural materials and contrasting vibrant colours throughout, from the cork floor and exposed glulam beams, to the brightly finished birch ply kitchen.

The MVHR steel ducting is exposed to create a semi-industrial modern aesthetic, whilst supplying fresh, filtered and tempered air. The house is heated with an air source heat pump and uses solar panels teamed with battery storage to generate a significant proportion of its energy demand.

“ Hannah is a sustainability evangelist! I could not have asked for more from Progress in Practice; from the initial consultation, through to the planning, and then delivering the project itself, they were patient, inventive and enthusiastic! I’m delighted with the result and am looking forward to many years here."
