Ward Grove Wins Sustainability Award

On Tuesday 24th June Hannah and Stephen went down on the train to London to attend both the Exemplar Sustainable Buildings Awards, hosted by the ASBP and the Passivhaus Trust, and the Sustainable Development Foundations birthday party. Ward Grove by Progress in Practice was shortlisted in the retrofit category with sustainability giants Architype and John Gilbert Architects, so the pair did not hold out any hope of a win but looked forward to a nice day out meeting old friends from the Passivhaus community.

The format for the afternoon was to play a short video and for the designer to present the scheme for just 6-8 minutes. Stephen was project lead on Ward Grove, having worked on the early designs all the way through to completion and handover, so it felt appropriate that he should be the one to present the project. It was the first time he’d been in this situation, but he spoke clearly and passionately about the project, our client Steve and making his home fit for the future, to an audience both in the room and online.

After a few hours of really fascinating and often moving presentations, the results were in. And the winner in the retrofit category is…Ward Grove by Progress in Practice!

The PiP team were truly thrilled. What an honour for a PiP project, Steve’s project, to be voted as the best retrofit by our most esteemed peers.

There were so many incredible projects presented on Tuesday, it was an absolute privilege to be part of.
